The 84th Annual Academy Awards...Just Thoughts, Mind You!
My dear internet puppies,
read my thoughts on The 84th Academy Awards ceremony...just thoughts mind you, not viscous commentary. I mean this is supposed to be entertainment....not the coming of CHRIST, so put everything into perspective people and enjoy them....This is their time to SHINE, so try not to dissect every bloody thing about everybody and everthing.......We all should be so lucky to be in their shoes!
Hmm, let me see.....the Oscars were NICE! The fashions were AMAZING! The winners sometimes SURPRISING!
Billy Crystal was like a comfortable old shoe that we simply can't get rid of because it fits so well, but I LOVED all the pre-recorded montage clips of the nominated films WITH the respective actors in them...not new (it's been done before) but GENIUS nonetheless!
But the most memorable "half-time performance" if you will for me, was the high-flying (literally) poetic acrobatics of the Cirque du Soleil troupe which literally had the audience GASPING, as did I! SIMPLY AMAZING and so befitting, even for the jaded Hollywood assemblage of global stars. Now you know it's great entertainment when some of the biggest stars on the planet are mesmerized! BREATHTAKING!
My personal fashion favorite moments (which every "style-fashion expert" twit and their mothers will be commmenting on today) were when Gwyneth Paltrow was getting interviewed on the red carpet in her white Tom Ford ensemble with the jacket-cape thrown over the shoulder...but only then ( I didn't like the dress so much when she was onstage presenting with Robert Downey Jr., whose reportage-docu-drama schpeel I thought was BRILLIANT).
I thought Penelope Cruz was simply STUNNING and she displayed a graceful Spanish serenity of restrained elegance.( she kind of reminded me of a younger, elegant and less zophtic Spanish version of Sophia Loren). Then we had the va-va-va-boom-ness and homage to a John Singer Sargent painting that Angelina Jolie exacted, but she's way tooooo gaunt and thin and almost gray looking....But in her defense, she should have camped up the extended leg action even LONGER after that bald asshole mimicked her initial stance displaying her ivory extended leg...what an act of disrespect it was to make fun of her! However, Miss Jolie you need to fatten up a little luv.
I so loved the "BUTT twins", Lopez & Diaz (that's Jennifer & Cameron) in their "kiss my ass, luv ya lots" over the shoulder come hither stances. And NO, J-Lo's TIT was not exposed as most people are tweeting about today! Come on people, get a friggin' life! That's called dramatic effect in dressing....all you new-bees should take notice of a tried and true veteran of "entrance and exit" making! J-Lo still RULES in that department, so LOOK, LEARN and LISTEN!!!!
Plus, I'm already SICK about everybody tolking about J-Lo's supposed "wardrobe malfunction"...which wasn't! She looked STUNNING and exactly what we expect J-Lo to look like....a POP GODDESS...NOBODY else could have pulled off that dress......with her curves, her flawless makeup and hair, and her graceful demeanor. SHE RULED the Oscars....and made even Cameron Diaz look cutesy, which is pretty damn hard to do!
PS. I did like Rooney Mara's striking hair against her porcelain white skin and the fact that she wore white....as opposed to her general dark Goth look, in contrast to Angelina Jolie's messy, thin looking hair, but to reiterate, I did love her black velvet dress and especially her dramatically extended and exposed leg! So there ya'll!
Another refreshing moment for me personally was Emma Stone's "newbee" "first time at the rodeo" presenter's routine (gorgeous red gown by the way) with Ben Stiller, which actually seemed new and unscripted, which we all know wasn't. However, I thought Ben Stiller was like a stiff bored (oops I meant board) and I don't think being the hugely funny guy that he's been in in the past, he just didn't seem to respond to her well comedically. I know he was the "veteran" playing straight man to her fresh wide-eyed exuberance....but I believed her and thought she came off well and totally sweet. he just seemed tired...of her!
I thought that Christopher Plummer's speech, (you know that "old guy who played a dieing gay guy", which is actually something I heard from some young cluesless twit) was funny and eloquent and so well deserved...now he's a class act! And another class act in my opinion was Meryl Streep, "The actor's actor" whose self-deprecating genuineness was refreshing and coming from an actor who's considered to be one of the best actors (notice I didn't say actresses) of our time (although I did think Viola Davis was going to win), I thought that was just so Meryl....completely worthy of the "Shakespeare of Actors" that she has become!
Of note, I did think that Michelle Williams was "spot on" as Marilyn Monroe in her portrayal of 'A Week With Marilyn' and deserved whatever accolades she's garnered, as did Kenneth Branagh, who portrayed Sir Lawrence Olivier...another GREAT ACTOR! Although she's young, we'll be seeing alot more from Ms. Williams in the future. As a fan of Marilyn Monroe, I thought she captured the many complexities of the most famous woman of the 20th century, in all her raw sexiness and the sheer vulnerability which we all came to idolize.
But I did pick Jean Dujardin for Best Actor and even his cocky French arrogance didn't bother me (that's because he's a French facsimile of the late-great American actor-dancer Gene Kelly, whom I adolized.) When I saw 'The Artist', that's exactly what I thought and I also picked 'The Artist' for Best Picture....all the rest I was kinda' surprised, or just didn't care!
'Hugo' won way more than I thought it would, but then Martin Scorcese is an American directing treasure! I would have liked it if "War Horse" won something because I thought it was such a beautiful, "old school" Hollywood movie not unlike 'National Velvet' which started off the career of the great Elizabeth Taylor, but 'War Horse' much more graphic and violent than 'National Velvet' was; Damn, that horse alone should have won for its' painfully gripping performance in the battlefield scene!
But all in all The 84th Academy Awards were NICE! I even spied Shelia E on the drums in the balcony of the "Foreclosure Theater" (Kodak Theater) which was not that funny when you think about it. Why doesn't Hollywood do something about saving that beautiful landmark theater? Maybe some trillionaire will now buy that grand old theater after the couple jabs that Billy Crystal made about the theater being in foreclosure. When you consider the amount of money that the movie business rakes in globally, you'd think that there would be some sort of restoration or preservation fund for grand old theaters like this....hmm, maybe there is! I'll look into it.
And of course the gospel style, "In Memoriam" tribute brought tears to my eyes, with such great legends that died this past year...namely Elizabeth Taylor, Whitney Houston & Ben Gazzara, all whom I had the pleasure of meeting and or working with!
Just thoughts mind you, not an essay.

GRATA...right off Sutton Place! Tell em Montgomery Frazier "The Image Guru" sent you!
I had a lovely dinner tonight with "The Ben" at my ole' friend Ariel's new restaurant, GRATA, right off Sutton Place! We couldn't have been more taken care of more and welcomed like royalty. The food was DELISH and I'm completely stuffed like a FAT LITTLE PIG FROM HELL!
No really, we had a marvelous time, the food was yummy-tasty (mussels, mini meatballs, asparagus soup, wild mushroom pasta, and the spagehtti bolognese) and the atmosphere not stuffy or prententious at all and it was actually quite pleasant and the prices were moderate and not inflated. Had a fantastic bourdeaux. I will definitely go back and recommend it to my circle of peeps! Thanks Ariel and the staff for a lovely evening!

DO I KNOW YOU?
I consider myself VERY LUCKY in the age department, because I think I've kept myself up pretty well over the years...good genes I guess! However, I do get a bit FREAKED OUT when I see people, in my own age category or even younger, looking like they're trying to look like pre-op teenage trannies! (and I know some FABULOUS TRANNIES) NO NAMES PLEASE. But it's a bit disconserting for me to see them again after a few years and barely being able to recognize them because they've been so completely and utterly AUGMENTED and ENHANCED with every kind of cosmetic surgery known to mankind and womankind! Does that make me a BITCH for commenting? Maybe...but to each his own I guess! I hope they're happy with their new selves! I guess when I start looking like a saggy handbag, then I might reconsider! Maintenance my dear internet puppies...never take for granted what GOD gave you!

ZELDA KAPLAN, New York Fashion Plate Drops Dead At Fashion Show!
I simply can't imagine "dropping dead" whilst sitting in the front row of a fashion show! How embarrassing for the designer and hugely awkward for the models, attendees and ushers and thoroughly unfortunate for the deceased and their family. What does one do when this happens?....
Well it did happen at the last Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, in the front row of the Joanna Mastroianni Fall 2012 showing at Lincoln Center for a venerated & legandary fashion icon and New York social fixture named Zelda Kaplan, who was apparently loved by all!
Talk about a "die hard" fashion plate! No pun intended and not to make lite of this, but how did I miss this? Apparently it was on the cover of The Post etc,etc etc. That just goes to show you that fashion can literally be the "be all and end all" WOW, I was shocked when I heard this story last night at a smart U.E.S gathering. But what a way to go....just as she lived...in Fashion!

LOLA ASTANOVA-Urbanette Magazine
LOLA ASTANOVA certainly is a "SHOW GIRL", or should I more appropiately have said, a "showmanship girl". She's prodigiously talented and gifted beyond belief with her "moviestar" beauty, she LOVES fashion and looks stunning in it (that's where I come into the picture now) and she's truly and genuinely a very NICE, INTELLIGENT GRACEFUL & LIKEABLE young lady and she's completely grounded and centered, not temperamental at all. Do I see a movie about her in the future? You bet I do! All it takes is one meeting with the right director and she's SET!

WHITNEY HOUSTON DAY...February 18, 2012
Today was a befitting tribute to one of the most God-given voices EVER, WHITNEY HOUSTON. A woman for whom will go down in the annuls of the performance industry simply as "The Voice"! An entertainer for whom I personally knew through my tenure at MTV. A woman who spawned a generation of aspirational divas who emulated Whitney Houston, but nobody wil ever come close to her magic and the sheer power and vocal poetry of her voice! A truly strong and gracious woman who faltered, but picked herself up and dusted herself off and faced her adoring worldwide public once again. But we all forgave her, for she was merely a human, but a truly beautiful and ultimately gifted human being. The tribute for WHITNEY HOUSTON was also a swansong for GOD and her lifetime devotion to GOD. She literally brought the world back to church and a gospel church at that, with some tears and reflections and pain and suffering, but also with much joy and accolades for a truly ORIGINAL woman of great grace, style, heart n soul and so much TALENT! There will never be another WHITNEY HOUSTON. GOD is smiling now, because you're at his feet singing and sharing what HE gave you. The world will always remember and love WHITNEY HOUSTON....I know I will!

WHITNEY HOUSTON, "The Voice"
Let's put to rest the negative aspects of Whitney Houston's life and revel in all of her accomplishments! It's easy to throw stones when you haven't walked in her stillettos. WHITNEY HOUSTON, with her GOD GIVEN VOICE, so aptly dubbed 'The Voice" , spawned an entire generation of vocal divas, from Mariah Carey, Christina Aquilera, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, to even Rihanna. GIve the lady her due respect, for she sang with the voice of GOD and had the face of an angel! Yes, she was human and she tumbled, but she did get herself back up and was on another incline again in her personal life and career. Her death wasn't pathetic, as some tabloids would have you believe, it was tragic and unfortunate...but GOD needed his songbird back to join HIS choir of angels in heaven! I will miss you WHITNEY HOUSTON....and so will the countless millions of fans from around this world! You affected so many peoples' lives.....and NOBODY can take that away from you!
Rest in GOD's arms....you beautiful creature of GOD!

Well I watched the funeral!!! Whitney Houston brought the world to a gospel church in Newark, New Jersey to celebrate her albeit too short life, but a life that made a difference. I didn't want to watch her funeral, but I'm glad I did. Although the world is saddened by her untimely passing, GOD welcomed her body, heart and soul back into his arms, to sing for an eternity. This makes me happy and...

Today they will lay to rest a special soul of great dimension and talent! So special that she could not bear the brunt of her own talent! I will definitely NOT watch the spectacle of WHITNEY HOUSTON'S funeral! I could give a rat's ass about who shows up to feign their love for this great talent! Where were they when she needed them the most????? I am so distraught over this...that I cannot stand ...

Brenda A. Delaney I don't understand people like you either, why all the hostility? You're missing the point, obviously. No one is throwing stones, just stating the fact that she unfortunately had an addiction and it was a horrible shame - that is why God called her home. He knew she was in emotional pain and He wanted to give her eternal peace. She is in the SPIRIT world now with the Lord.

I LOVE YOU WHITNEY HOUSTON.....but I've got to get back to living my life! Your untimely death has generated too many tears from this guru and I must move on....but I SHALL NEVER FORGET! I shall never forget your VOICE, I shall never forget your BEAUTY and I shall never forget your SOUL...nor will the rest of the world! But were we to have you just a little bit longer on this earth, but alas that was not destined for you or for us all.

I don't understand people like you! The point of her life wasn't her addiction...it was her voice and her legacy! There's no reason to throw stones at people who are addicted.....They need compassion and love just like everybody else, even ...See More

Now your voice, on loan from GOD, shall rejoin the chorus of angels and I shall always listen....and remember that you once were human!

This makes me happy and to know that we on this earth enjoyed so many memorable performances that too will last for an eternity. You touched my heart personally, Whitney Houston, in so many ways! Thanks for bringing me and the world back to church, but for a celebratory moment in time. We need more angels like you in our world, but few will ever match the gifts you were given!

Editorial: The Wrath of KCD
Or Why We Stop Worrying and Loved the Truth
Over the past year, we have written a number of critical editorials about New York PR firm KCD. Now, for those who are too young to remember, KCD stands for Keeble, Cavaco and Duka. A firm who was founded on and by a legendary trio that could today be a basis for a first class reality show. Today, this agency has been taken over by lesser hands, but still they manage many top shows in NY and Paris -- either as producers or behind the scenes for press relations.
We had the tenacity of questioning this firm's behavior. Their response was to uninvite us from all the shows they are representing. They have, in effect, blacklisted us. There is no point in going into all the particulars, let us just say that they are struggling to stay relevant in age of social media where fashion publicity is moving beyond them. Some would say, it is just so much sour grapes on our part that we are no longer invited into any of their clients' shows. But KCD is so thin skinned, so filled with their own self importance that they put their hubris over their client's interests. Another example of a firm who confuses who they are with who they work for.
Seems so many in our industry are scared skinny over KCD not including them on their press lists. Well, we could care less. So for Ed Filopowski and Julie Mannion this little ditty is just for you. It is based upon a My Fair Lady's song:
KCD is not the beginning and the end.
There'll be spring shows every year without you.
Fashion still will be here without you.
There'll be fruit on the tree.
And a shore by the sea.
We will still have crumpets and tea without KCD.
RTW & Couture will thrive without you. Somehow even the CFDA will survive without you.
And there still will be rain on that plain down in Spain,
even that will remain without you.
Frankly, we can all do bloody well without you.

MADONNA ROCKS MY WORLD......FOREVER!
Madonna is a consumate performer and displayed to the world why she is who she is! "She had style, she had grace and she gave us all good face". She put on a Super Bowl 2012 spectacle worthy of any Hollywood movie, in fact, she recreated one fo the most epic entrances ever created in Hollywood history and paid tribute to another great legend, the late great Elizabeth Taylor in the movie 'Cleopatra'. How befitting for the original "Material Girl" to show her epic, grown up, maturer side of pop icon-ism! Kudos to you Madonna!
In my professional opinion, I believe that you're primed and ready to portray the great Marlene Dietrich. Along with other femme fatale acting and musical icons like Marilyn Monroe & Debbie Harry, you've earned your stripes and paved the way for so many "new originals" (Gaga). Hate her if you must, but this lady doth endure. Now we find that she can direct too, as is exhibited in her new movie, W./E. The beauitful and complex love story about The Duke & Duchess of Windsor. A masterfully acted movie by Andrea Riseborough who played Wallis Simpson and geniusly directed by none other than MADONNA! All hail MADONNA! The world still awaits you and this image guru adores you...forever!
