The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards

For all of those who stayed home and watched this year's 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards, I being one of them having delighting in my effort to make a delicious curried chicken dish, I have to say that it was rather annoying, benal and bitchy, with very few highlights. Now maybe it was because Ricky Gervais was the host, but I thought his humor was completely inappropriate, undignified and dragged the whole show down with his bitchy brand of humor that few people in the crowd appreciated, but aside from that, there were other awkward moments. But then maybe I just don't get Ricky Gervais as a comedienne.

Now I personally have never found Ricky Gervais to be funny and mind you, I get English humor very well and do so appreciate their wit and candor, plus I have alot of English friends, but Mr. Gervais just seems to be an unkind, bitchy English "CUNT-try" man who has major issues and many chips on his shoulders. I've seen him hosting other award ceremonies and he is always, in my professional opinion, inappropriately unkind and thoroughly bitchy and it just doesn't come off as funny. It's like he lost all that weight, when he was a "fat fuck" himself and subsequently lost his sense of humor and sense of what is genuinely funny and or playfully clever...Now he is just plain mean-spirited, which comes off as angry. He's the kind of snotty Englishman that you'd want to smash in the face because he's just an asshole in any language! But enough of that jerk!

Another awkward moment during this telecast was when American screen acting legend, Robert DeNiro, was presented the Cecille B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, by none other than Matt Damon..... Matt Damon???? why Matt Damon? I mean I like Matt Damon as an actor and all that, but couldn't they have gotten somebody else more befitting and appropriate.... like maybe Martin Scorcese, or Francis Ford Coppola, or Steven Spielberg, or Tom Hanks, or any other legendary peer? Then when Mr. DeNiro accepted his award, it was sooooo friggin' weird and his humor also fell on deaf ears as his speech was neither dignified, nor funny, nor witty, nor clever... it was just plain odd, awkward and vaguely humorous. Maybe Ricky Gervais wrote his acceptance speech too. But Mr. DeNiro made some strangely incongruous comments about immigrations and waiters being deported and such, which kind of demeaned his award and made him look foolish and trite, not the American treasure that he truly is! But he is Robert DeNiro and he can do no wrong in most people's eyes!

One of the highlights for me personally was when Michael Douglas was given a standing ovation by the star-studded audience, as was Mr. DeNiro initially, when he made a surprise award presentation for Best Picture of The Year (which was snatched up by Social Networking, duhhh). But the difference was that the audience was truly happy to see the dignified Mr. Douglas alive and well and surprisingly beating his cancer scare, which has been public knowledge for the last year or so.... so who says Hollywood doesn't have a heart?

Now as far as the fashion and style of the Golden Globes, I felt that overall, it looked like a high school prom or Beverly Hills wedding, with very few risk takers, or Haute-ies! I mean really, where are the stylists getting their frocks from..... a bridal shoppe? I've seen bar-mitzvahs that were more chic and glamorous! Some of the LA stylists need to go back to school for styling! For such an important award ceremony, which they say is a prelude or indicator as to the winners for The Oscars, I was completely underwhelmed by the fashions sported!

But here are my best picks for the "Ladies of The Golden Globes".

1. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, Olivia Wilde's haute strapless gown in copper and black tulle. STUNNILINGUS!!!!

2. Loved Meghan Fox's ensmble. Interesting juxtaposition of colors and textures and treatments with Hollywood youthful glamour makeup and hair.

3. Halle Berry looked statuesque and importantly appropriate in leg sporting layered black chiffon and beautiful decolletage, with signature Halle Berry hair and makeup. Safe, but still sexy!

4. Natalie Portman looked serenely regal and very much like a "Princess Swan" with her gorgeous necklace that must have cost a fortune and her interestingly beaded rose applique bodiced gown. Her hair and makeup was stunning with her hair in a tradtional chignon! Very New York meets Hollywood!

5. Jennifer Lopez is always a stunner. She looked like Latina Barbie in her white gown with sheer overlay encrusted with jeweled diamantes, which was a tribute to Doris Day in the 60's.

6. Jane Fonda, yes Jane Fonda looked surprisingly modern and architectural in her black sheer, 40's inspired gown with pagoda shoulder pads and angular rows of beads or sequins, however, she's got to modernize her fluffy hair when she wears such a chic, angularly architectural gown.

7. Claire Danes was a bit of a throw back to Edie Sedgewick in her pink halter gown, which was quite 60's inspired and her smart Twiggy inspired bob!

8. Sandra Bullock's nude beaded gown was beautiful, but her new "sporty banged hairdo" was too heavy on the top (in my professional opinion) and looked a little wiggy which made her look like an Afghan. She tried to pull of what Taylor Swift did when she cut her into into bangs, only Ms. Swift's haircut was a better cut and didn't look wiggy! But we LOVE Sandra and her effort!

9. Alicia Keys looked like a movie star, although her fuschia gown made her looke a little wide in her mid-section. An Empire waist is a better silhouette for her for next time, but her hair and makeup were FLAWLESS! She's another glamorous "POP" diva!

10. Honorable mention goes to Tilda Swinton for daring to be different and actually looking quite fashionably CHIC! Loved her fashionable editorial hair, in contrast to her crisp white blouse, perfectly crisp starched taffeta gown skirt, all in shades of white and bone! Very chic!

Hated Julianne Moore's red gown.... she looked awkward in it and she walked like a truck driver in it too. Not a good choice for this generally flawless perveyor of fashion!

Annette Bening looked a bit like a spinster in mourning, which her tired choppy hair and old lady glasses! She too, was not on point for her Golden Globe award acceptance speech. She's looked so much better in the past.

There were also alot of mega-padded 80's Dynasty inpired shoulder padded, beaded gowns. What gives..... did someone raid the Nolan Miller archives, namely Anne Hathaway and Angelina Jolie, who did look stunning!

Also, I love that Glee was acknowledged so many times. It's such a cool show with so many great messages and performances and gives hope to so many nerds and nerdettes, of which I used to be one!

Oh, and one more issue......change the bloody venue already! It's soo old and crusty! Find another venue, one that's in this century maybe and find a producer who can revamp the Golden Globes and produce an interesting verion.... I thought I was going to see them push out someone in a wheel chair, because that's the type of show it looks like. Now I know for a fact that most of the stars like the Golden Globes, because it's so casual and they mix it up with their peers at a dinner party charity setting, but for the viewing audience, it's just not hip, not cool, nor anything exciting and it's SOOOOOO BORING to watch! Aside from the crystals hanging from the ceiling and the sometimes flawless gowns that the actresses wear (but not this year), there's no visual aesthetic to this awards show, well at least for me!

I'm tired now, but I'll probably add some more commentary on as I peruse all the fashion photos from last night's ceremonies.
